YOUTH

Youth Ministry: Grades 6-12

Sunday School

Each week students in grades 6th-12th meet together to share the highs and lows of the week they have experienced and to hear a devotional. This time is not only for faith development and learning but also for fellowship and friendship building as gathering time includes pool and ping pong games as well!

Worship Participation

Youth are an integral part of our worship experience at Milledge Avenue Baptist Church. Not only do youth participate in the sanctuary choir as leaders in worship, but they also read scripture, offer instrumental music, lead through drama participation and serve as ushers. We also have yearly Student Sundays where students also offer prayers, lead the children’s sermon, and preach or lead music. We want our youth to join us in all aspects of our life in community and that definitely includes worship!

Inside Out

Once a week on Sunday evenings, youth come together for a time of food, recreation, and BIble study. The topics for study and activity have included the Book of Revelation, a study of the Trinity, foundational Bible stories, and world religions studies. In addition, this time is used to plan and implement Student Sunday or help in the Pumpkin Patch. This time of being and growing together in faith and fellowship is what binds us as a group.

Youth Seasonal Activities

Our youth group has several traditions that we hold dear that cement us as a team:

In the Fall

  • an annual lock-in to welcome 6th graders into our group,
  • plus Pumpkin Patch work and
  • a trip to a corn maze offer us quality time together -- even if we're getting lost

At Christmastime and in the winter months

  • we have a Progressive dinner and crazy gift swap where we bond with older members in our congregation and get silly as we celebrate.
  • we also enjoy Singing @ the Chrismon and having Christmas Banquet time with our church family.
  • other winter activities may include ski trips, retreats, and other opportunities to enjoy faith and fellowship.

In the Spring

  • We have game nights that often get wet and messy but increase the fun!

In the Summertime

  • A trip to camp or mission site
  • Day and evening activities chosen by youth
  • Serving at a local mission
  • Pool party
  • Movie night

In addition to these annual activities, we also have some that present themselves--like whitewater rafting, scavenger hunts, Destination Unknown trips, and more! We're always open new ideas and opportunities.
