Dr. Betty Jones

55+ Ministry Director

Dr. Betty Jones joined our church staff on June 1, 2022, as the part-time, volunteer 55+ Ministry Director. Betty and her husband, Barry, have been MABC members since 1998. She brings to this position strong organizational skills and a great love for MABC senior adults. Since joining MABC, Betty has served as a senior women’s Sunday school class teacher, has directed numerous drama productions, and has contributed graphic design skills. Currently, she leads a publications team that produces Horizons, our MABC newsletter.

Betty was raised in Athens, Ohio. She is a graduate of Kentucky Christian University, with a B.A. in Bible. She earned two masters degrees (Journalism and American Literature) at Morehead State University, and a PhD (Mass Communications) from Ohio University. She retired after nearly 40 years in academia, teaching at Kentucky Christian College, Louisiana College, Ohio University, and the University of Georgia. At UGA, Betty taught graphic design at the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication and was the faculty advisor of Public Relations Student Society of America, building that organization to the world’s largest chapter.

Betty’s daughter and Barry’s two sons have given them the gift of six grandchildren, and Betty is waiting impatiently for the birth of her first great grandchild!

Betty has assembled a 55+ Care Team who, with her help, will minister to and share Christ’s love for our older adults by identifying and reaching out to all members, especially those homebound or in care facilities to assure no one is forgotten. As a senior MABC member herself, Betty understands the needs of this very important group of people who bring wisdom and institutional history to our congregation. This program was a dream of our beloved Tommie Mullis. Under Betty’s leadership, we hope to carry on Tommie’s legacy.
