Our Stewardship Mission

“Think of us in this way, as servants of Christ and stewards of God's mysteries. Moreover, it is required of stewards that they be found trustworthy.”  --1 Corinthians 4:1-2 (NRSV)

This Easter, we are inviting you to complete an “Estimate of Giving” card and make a financial pledge to the 2017-2018 Ministry Action Plan of Milledge Avenue Baptist Church.

Rather than an extended campaign, we ask each family in our congregation to consider prayerfully their commitment to Christ’s work here at MABC and how they can support the work of our mission efforts, ministers, children, youth, outreach, spiritual formation and older adults.

PLEDGE DEDICATION SUNDAY is Easter morning. We ask each family—as they are led by the Spirit of Christ—to place their Estimate of Giving card in the offering plate during the Sunday service.

Paul emphasized the following biblical motives for giving:

  • Give as a response to God’s grace (2 Cor 8:7)
  • Give as a response to the example of Christ who gave himself for us (2 Cor 8:9)
  • Give as a form of sacrifice to God (Phil 4:18)
  • Give as a concrete proof of love (2 Cor 8:8, 24)
  • Give the self before any material gift (2 Cor 8:5)
  • Give generously (2 Cor 9:11)
  • Give in love (1 Cor 13:3)
  •  Give in response to God the creator, owner, redeemer and sustainer (Col 1:15-21)
  • Give in response to the resurrection (1 Cor 15:1-58)

Those things to which we truly commit ourselves become costly enterprises. But when commitments are being fulfilled, when promises are being kept, when deeds are being done, when discipleship expressed and love manifested in the name of Christ—then there is the joy of celebration. This Easter, join us in the celebration of joyful giving.

Why is the church asking me to give?

Giving nurtures growth in our relationship with Jesus Christ and enables the church to accomplish its mission and ministries.

Why complete an "Estimate of Giving" card?

With operational expenses over $400,000 a year, we realize that just like every family, we need to estimate our annual income so that we know how to manage our budget.

Can I give electronically?

Yes, you can! If you are interested in giving online, look to the right and click on the icon either as a member or a guest. It will take you to our Access ACS log in page and from there, you will log in or create a log in account.

Will the church call me if I fall behind in my "Estimate of Giving" commitment?

Absolutely not!! If your financial situation changes and you need to increase or decrease your pledge, all you have to do is contact the church office and advise the church secretary.

How will I know if I'm up to date on my "Estimate of Giving" commitment?

The church will send you an email notification to view your quarterly statement online (if you have created an account with Access ACS) to help you keep current and a year-end-statement to help with your income tax preparation. If you have a log in with Access ACS, you can always go to your account for up to date giving and access it more frequently.

What is a tithe?

A tithe represents ten percent of our income. It is the biblical standard for giving. Malachi 3:10 describes what happens when we are obedient to God’s call to tithe: "Bring the full tithe into my storehouse, and try me in this; I will open for you the windows of heaven and pour out such blessing that there will not be room enough to receive it."
